Bharatpur is today known as the country's finest bird sanctuary, but before independence its fame wad more generic. Bharatpur was the premier Jat state in Rajasthan, Dholpur being the other one.
In a sense Bharatpur is the legacy of Churaman.Badan Singh established and founded the fort and palaces of Deeg in 1725,Later his son laid the foundation nearby of the fort.The fort was made impregnable through the simple device of surrounding it with massive earth walls and a moat. However it is Deeg which is showcase of Jat architecture. Several war trophies including a marble swing that belonged to Shah Jehan can be seen here.
