The castle is situated on a hillock which is encircled by the Deogarh town.
Built in 1670 A.D. by Rawat Dwarkadas ji of the Chundawat clan of the Sisodia
dynasty the castle is a fine artistic work of the famed Sompura architects, well
known for their craftsmanship.
Modifications were carried out in the later years according to the needs of the
residents. With five floors, over two hundred rooms, numerous balconies with
carved pillars and extensive use of marble the palace is really an imposing
monument. Several rooms are decorated with murals done by local painters after
whom the Deogarh school of painting has acquired fame the world over.
Another aspect that will impress the tourist is the large collection of Deogarh
miniatures. Bhil dances accompanied by the local folk singers can make the
evenings lively and entertaining. bird- watching on Ragho sagar lake and many
picnic spots scattered around the Deogarh will be of interest to the visitors,
especially for the nature lovers. jeep safaris, arranged on request are also
among other out door activities.
Tourist attractions like Nathdwara, Kankroli, Kumbalgarh and Ranakpur are all
accessible from the castle.
