Whitefield Ashram |
|
About 20 km east of Bangalore is the summer ashram of
Sri Sathya Sai Baba, where he is usually in residence between March and
May. His main ashram, Puttaparthi, is in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.

Bannerghatta National Park |
|
This modest national park, 21 km south of Bangalore, is home
to a small population of leopards. There's also a staged 'safari' where
you can see lions, tigers and elephants in a fenced-in area, plus a
crocodile and snake farm. It's open daily except Tuesday. |

Nrityagram |
|
This dance village, 30 km north-west of Bangolare, was
established in the early 1990s to revive Indian classical dance. Under the
auspices of well-known Oddissi dancer, Protima Gauri, it offers the long
term study of classical dance and it's allied subjects, such as
choreography, philosophy, music, mythology and painting. The village
designed by award-winning Goan architect, Gerard Da Cunha, welcomes
visitors and accommodates guests. |

Nandi Hill |
|
This hill station (1615m), 68 km north of Bangalore, was a
popular summer retreat even in Tipu Sultan's days. Tipu's Drop, a 600m
high cliff face, not only provided a good view over the surrounding
country, it was also a convenient place to dispose of enemies. there are
two notable Chola temples here. |

Hessarghatta Lake |
|
(27 km) an artificial lake
spread over 1,000 acres it provides facilities for sailing. A livestock
breeding and poultry centers has been established here as a part of the
Indo-Danish dairy project. |
