Panna National Park |
The road to Satna passes through this 543 sq km park along the River Ken, 32km from Khajuraho. It has large areas of unspoilt forest and a variety of wildlife including leopards,
chital (spotted deer), langur monkeys and
sambar. There are about 22 tigers in the park but since they're not tracked (as at
Kanha) you'd be very lucky to spot one. |

Ajaigarh & Kalinjar Forts |
At Ajaigarh, 80km from
Khajuraho, is a large isolated hilltop fort. It was built by the Chandelas when their influence in the area was on the decline. Kalinjar Fort, 25km north (just inside Uttar
Pradesh) is much older, built during the Gupta period and mentioned by Ptolemy in the 2nd century AD. It was a stronghold of the Chandelas from the 9th to 15th centuries before being conquered by Akbar in 1569. |

Raneh Falls |
Raneh Falls (19 km) located to the north of Khajuraho on the Ken River are famous for their sensational waterfalls and rock formations. The attraction is 5-km-long, 100-ft-deep canyon of crystalline granite in color shades ranging from pink and red to gray.
Ken Nature Trail (22 km), within walking distance from Raneh Falls, is a jungle track. |

Dhubela Museum |
Dhubela Museum (65 km) is housed in a place on the Jhansi-Khajuraho road and the houses a vast collection of Shakti
cult scriptures, paintings, garments and weapons. |

Bandhavgarh National Park |
Bandhavgarh National Park (237 km) is in the heart of Vindhyachal ranges. The forest, tree-covered hills, archaeological remains and a variety of wildlife make the park an enchanting place. The 14th century Bandhavgarh Fort and pre-historic caves with inscriptions are worth a visit. |
