General info One of the most important cities of Tamilnadu, Coimbatore is called the 'Manchester of South India' and is the third largest city in the state. The headquarters of the Nilgiri region, its exposure to the Palghat Gap of the Western Ghats Coimbatore a Salubrious climate. A highly industrialised city, it is the centre of textile manufacturing in the state - there are over a hundred mills in and around Coimbatore. Primarily a business centre, it is known for the manufacturing of motor pump sets and various engineering and electronic goods.

Anamalai Sanctuary>

Just 60 km away from Coimbatore, also known as the Indira Gandhi Wild Life Sanctuary. It is the biggest sanctuary in Tamil Nadu sprawls over an area of about 958 sq. km. The animals found here are gaur, elephant, tiger, sloth bear, wild bear dog, nilgiri, langur etc. There is a bird watch tower at Kariam Shola, 2 km away from Top slip. Trekking and hill climbing are also available here. There is a town Amaravathy Nagar has Crocodile breeding centre.
Udhagalamandalam

100 km away from Coimbatore-- Ooty called the Queen of hill stations is located at the Nilgiri hills at 2240 meters above sea level. There is 50 acre garden includes a variety of exotic ornamental plants. There is a fossil tree trunk which is 20 million years old. Rose Garden covering an area of 10 acres inside Vijaya Nagar farm has about 1900 variety of roses. The MUKURTHI NATIONAL PARK contains viable population of nilgiri tahr. Fascinating feature of the Mukurthi sanctuary is its relationship with the Himalayan flora and fauna. PYKARA Dam and the reservoir attract many tourists. DODABETTA, 10 km from Ooty, offer beautiful vistas of the Nilgiri hill ranges.


Coonoor

85 km away from Coimbatore -- 19 km away from Ooty is the second largest hill station of the Nilgiris at altitude of 1858 metres. LAW'S FALLS and ST. CATHERINE FALLS are two breathtaking fall. At DOLPHIN'S NOSE, 12 km from Coonoor, one can take a glimpses of the Catherine fall.


Archaeological Museum
It is superb examples of local sculpture, including remarkable Lajja-Gauri images of a fertility cult which flourished in the area. It's open from 10 am to 5 pm daily except Friday.
