Day 04 :- PhakdingNamcheBazaar 3440m
From Phakding the trail follows the western bank of Dudh Koshi passing through forests of Blue Pine until it reaches a village of Benkar. Beyond this village the trail crosses to the eastern bank of Dudh Koshi River beside a large rock with excellent example of "mani" carving on it and climbs gently to the village of Chumao. Between here and the next village of Monjo (2800m) the trail drops steeply to cross Monjo Khola which is fed by the mountains of Thamserku, Kangtega and Kusum Kanguru. From Monjo the trail crosses a small saddle behind a rock and then descends abruptly to re-cross the Dudh Koshi at Jorsale (2804m). On the cliff above the river it is possible to see the rare musk deer and Himalayan Thar. Beyond Jorsale the trail undulates up the western bank until the confluence with Bhote Koshi is crossed and we enter the Khumbu region. Above the bridge the trail zigzags up the steep spur between the two rivers following the ledges between bluffs, through sparse forest, until a resting place on a small level area is reached, after 300 meters of climbing. From the far end of this resting area, Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) can be seen rising above Nuptse - Lhotse wall. The next section of the trail climbs less steeply traversing above the Bhote Koshi until Namche Bazaar (3440m) the main trekking village in the "Sagarmatha National Park" is reached for overnight stay. Total walking time 6 -7hours.
