Jabalpur

Jabalpur was the pleasure spot and capital of the Gond Kings during the 12th century and was later the seat of the Kalchuri dynasty. The Marthas too had their presence here till 1817 when British took over .The impression of the British can witnessed in the form of spacious cantonment , colonial-style residence and barracks. It's also the departure point for a visit to the national parks of Kanha and Bandhavgarh. Today Jabalpur is a major administrative and educational centre and the army headquarters for the states of Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. Provincial Jabalpur is celebrated for the" Marble Rocks" that rise like cliffs from the river Narmada that flows through here .However the rocks are not really marble , but are so known as for dazzling purity of limestone deposits .
